Repairs and Modifications

We repair and modify stainless tanks and process equipment in our Brisbane workshop, and test the work there.

Modifying an Existing Tank

A new product, a bigger batch or a new cleaning regime can mean your tank needs extra ports, a jacket or an agitator. Modifying the tank is often quicker and cheaper than replacing it.

We design each modification with 3D modelling and approval drawings, the same way we design new tanks, so you can see what will change before we start. The work is done in our workshop by the same stainless welders who build our new equipment.

  • New nozzles, ports and connections
  • Manways and access openings
  • Jackets for heating or cooling
  • Agitators and mixers
  • CIP spray balls and pipework

Testing Repairs and Modifications

Every repair or modification we make is checked before it goes back to you. We do hydrostatic testing, depending on the size of the tank, or air pressure testing in our workshop, and dye penetrant testing of the welds. Where the job calls for it, radiography is arranged through a NATA-accredited third party, and the results go into the MDR.

You and your inspector are welcome to witness our pressure tests at our workshop, and independent witnessing can be arranged through our third-party engineers. Other testing your specification calls for, such as borescope inspection, riboflavin coverage testing, surface finish (profilometer) checks and material verification, can be arranged through NATA-accredited third-party testers.

  • Pressure tests open to you and your inspector to witness

How a Repair or Modification Job Runs

  1. 01

    Assess

We assess the job from your photos and drawings, or when the equipment comes in to our workshop.

  2. 02

    Design

We draw up the repair or modification and send approval drawings before any work starts.

  3. 03

    Send It In

You send the equipment to our workshop in Murarrie, Brisbane. We can arrange freight if you need it.

  4. 04

    Fabricate and Fit

We do the work in our workshop, using the welding process that suits the job.

  5. 05

    Test and Return

We pressure test the work we have done, by hydrostatic or air test, and carry out dye penetrant testing where needed. Then the equipment goes back to you.

Planned Around Your Downtime

Taking equipment out of service costs you production. Tell us your downtime window early and we will plan the job around it. Drawings are approved and parts are made before the equipment arrives, so it spends less time in our workshop.

We can arrange freight to and from our workshop. Removing the equipment from your plant and putting it back is done by your own team or contractors.

Questions About Repairs and Modifications

For anything else, call (07) 3348 9444.

Will you work on a tank you did not build?

Yes. We repair and modify stainless equipment built by others, in our workshop. We assess it first and tell you what is practical.

Can you add a jacket or agitator to an existing tank?

Often, yes. It depends on the tank's shell, size and supports. We assess it, design the change and send approval drawings before any work starts. The work is done in our workshop.

Do you work on site or only in your workshop?

Repairs are done in our workshop, where the work can be pressure tested. We can arrange freight to and from our workshop.

Can you fit the work around our downtime?

Yes. Give us your dates early and we will have drawings approved and parts made before the equipment arrives.

Do you repair pumps?

We don't repair pumps ourselves, but we can arrange repair and servicing for all types of pumps.

How do we know the repair is sound?

We pressure test the finished work in our workshop, by hydrostatic test depending on the size of the tank, or by air test, and carry out dye penetrant testing of the welds. Depending on the job, radiography and any other testing your specification calls for are arranged through NATA-accredited third-party testers. The results go into the MDR.
