Quality, Testing and Handover

You may never visit our workshop, so this page sets out how we design, build, test and hand over your tank.

How a Job Runs When You Are Interstate

Most of our customers are a long way from our workshop. So we put it all on paper: what we will build, how we will test it and what you receive at handover.

It starts with 3D modelling and approval drawings. You sign off the design before we cut any steel, so the tank that arrives on site is the one you approved. From there our own team fabricates and tests it in our Murarrie workshop, and we deliver it to your site, freighted by Russell Transport.

  • Approval drawings signed off before fabrication
  • Built in our stainless-only workshop
  • Pressure tested and inspected in our workshop before it leaves
  • Delivered to your site, Australia-wide

From Approval Drawing to Handover

  1. 01

    Approval Drawings

We model your tank in 3D and issue approval drawings showing dimensions, grade, nozzles, fittings and finish. Nothing is fabricated until you sign them off.

  2. 02

    Fabrication

Our welders, qualified to our own weld procedures under AS/NZS 3992 and ASME IX, build your tank in 304, 316, 316L or higher alloys using orbital, TIG, MIG and flux-cored welding, in a workshop with no carbon steel.

  3. 03

    Testing and Factory Acceptance

We test the tank in our workshop, by hydrostatic or air test, then carry out a pre-delivery inspection. You and your inspector are welcome to witness the tests, or watch by video.

  4. 04

    Delivery

We deliver the tank to your site, anywhere in Australia, freighted from our Murarrie workshop by Russell Transport.

How We Test Your Tank

In our Murarrie workshop we run hydrostatic testing (depending on the size of the tank), air testing, dye penetrant testing and a pre-delivery inspection. Radiography and any other testing your specification calls for are arranged through NATA-accredited third-party testers. The results go into your manufacturer’s data report. The tests on your job depend on the product, the design and your specification.

Hydrostatic Testing

Vessels, jackets and pipework are pressure tested with water in our workshop before they leave, and after repairs. Whether we test in house depends on the size of the tank.

Air Testing

Air pressure testing of vessels, jackets and pipework, done by our own team in our workshop.

Dye Penetrant Testing

We carry out dye penetrant testing in our workshop to find surface cracks and defects in welds and fabricated parts, with the results in your data report.

Pre-Delivery Inspection

Every job gets a pre-delivery inspection in our workshop before it leaves.

Radiography

Checks the internal quality of welds where the job calls for it. Arranged through a NATA-accredited third party, with the results in your data report.

Other Testing

Other testing your specification calls for, such as borescope inspection, riboflavin coverage testing, surface finish (profilometer) checks and material verification, can be arranged through NATA-accredited third-party testers.

ASSDA Accredited Fabricator Since 2009

We have been an Accredited Fabricator with the Australian Stainless Steel Development Association (ASSDA) since 2009. ASSDA runs the stainless industry’s own accreditation scheme for fabricators.

We work only in stainless steel, with no carbon steel fabrication in our workshop. That keeps your tank free of carbon steel contamination, and it means every welder on the floor works in stainless every day.

  • ASSDA Accredited Fabricator since 2009
  • Stainless only: 304, 316, 316L and higher alloys
  • Building stainless tanks since 1996

Questions About Quality and Testing

For anything else, call (07) 3348 9444.

Can we check the design before you start building?

Yes. We model every tank in 3D and send approval drawings. Fabrication starts only once you have signed them off.

Which tests will my tank get?

It depends on the product and the design. In our workshop we run hydrostatic testing (depending on the size of the tank), air testing and dye penetrant testing, and every job gets a pre-delivery inspection. Radiography and any other testing your specification calls for are arranged through NATA-accredited third-party testers. The results go into your manufacturer's data report. We agree the tests with you at quote stage.

Can our inspector witness the tests?

Yes. You and your inspector are welcome to witness testing at our workshop. Independent witnessing of fabrication and testing can be arranged through our third-party engineers.

Can we check the tank without flying to Brisbane?

Yes. Independent witnessing of fabrication and testing can be arranged through our third-party engineers. We can also show your team the tests by video.

What paperwork comes with the tank?

Every tank comes with a manufacturer's data report with material certificates and weld records. Drawings, an inspection and test plan and test reports can be supplied on request, depending on what your site or auditor needs. We confirm it in the quote.

What does ASSDA accreditation mean for us?

ASSDA is the Australian Stainless Steel Development Association. We have been one of its Accredited Fabricators since 2009, so our stainless work is recognised by the industry body.

What warranty do you offer?

12 months on labour and workmanship.
